Instructional Updates: An email with instructional updates was sent to all regular classroom teachers and PRT's. The information is listed below.
MATH
As you are aware everyone should be using the new Standard for Mathematical Practice this year. It would be beneficial for those practices to be included in your lesson plans. Please make a row/column or some type of notation of the Standard in Mathematical practice that your team will be focusing on during your lessons.
* Math journaling was recommended.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
New essential standards are being taught this year. Please note the standard being taught in your lesson plans.
**** All information pertaining to the Common Core and the Essential Standard can be located on Learning Village
2nd/3rd Teachers & PRT's working in 2nd/3rd Grades:
All small groups should be re-evaluated after the end of the 2nd quarter using K-2 assessment data and Dibels. All classroom teachers should work with all ability groups during the quarter. Groups should be changed at least three times during the quarter. Thus allowing the homeroom teacher to work with all high, middle and low level students. PRT's should be notified of the changes of groups as soon as possible. If possible PRT's are encouraged to work with the classroom teacher in designing the groups. Time may be a challenge in this factor but email and notes can always be used for communication purposes.
Awards Day:
Awards Day is scheduled for February 3, 2012. The format will be similar to the Awards Day in November. A schedule will be sent home to parent soon. The first day went very well and will certainly run smoother this time.
Awards: Every class will give perfect attendance. Due to much confusion regarding a clear definition of perfect attendance the topic was discussed in SIT . Mr. Oates was in attendance at one of the meeting and provided his input on the definition of perfect attendance. This is the policy we will use for perfect attendance for the remainder of this year.
Perfect Attendance: A child will be present everyday during the 2nd quarter and will have 5 or fewer tardies or early dismissals. Mrs. Durling will be able to assist you with the process. We can speak to to determine if she can generate a report for each class and that will be our official transcript.
Each grade chair should submit the names of the awards that will be given by January 18th. Each grade level will present the same awards ( individual teachers should not create a special award for their class).
Names of students receiving the award should be submitted to Mrs. Duggins via email by January 24th at 3:00pm.
During SIT we realized that with the new grading systems/ letters our old system of Eagle of Excellence, etc. was not appropriate at this time. We have not had an opportunity to develop a new system. Therefore, this is what is recommended for each grade to present during the event and examples are in the ().
Grades K-2:
Perfect Attendance, a reading reward ( I know my sight words), a math award (I can count to 100) and a citizenship type award (some classes are just selecting one boy and one girl from the class for their award-- any student that received all s's could receive the awards.
Grades 3-5
Perfect attendance, citizenship award, A honor roll , AB honor roll, maybe AR goal award (all classes in a grade level must participate)
SPECIAL AWARDS: These are awards given by specialist or for any other recognition. These must be submitted to Mrs. Duggins by January 24th at 3:00pm.
