Parent Involvement

As teachers, we recognize the importance of parental involvement and the impact it has on our students academic success. According to Henderson and Mapp, "the evidence is consistent, positive, and convincing: families have a major influence on their children’s achievement in school and through life.... When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more."
Henderson, A. & Mapp, K., 2002, A New Wave of Evidence: The Impact of School, Family, and Community Connections on Student Achievement.

Fourth grade teachers had an initiative: they are inviting all 4th grade parents to help decorate their hallway for the holidays. They set two dates and provide the materials. Simple and inviting... Way to go, 4th grade team!

Let's discuss ideas to include our parents, working together we can support our students' academic success!
